The Centre for Refugee and IDP Studies (CESI) of the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo Invites you to register for International Summer School on Refugee Law with Professor Emerita Barbara Harrell-Bond.
Date: 21-28th of July, 2014 Faculty of Political Sciences, Sarajevo
In the last decade Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has been transformed from a refugee producing country to a host country for asylum-seekers and refugees. Moreover, due to ongoing wars and prolonged hostilities in Syria and other parts of the world, it is expected that the number of persons seeking an international protection in BiH will grow, thus making further development of the country’s asylum system an important task. With the support of EU and UNHCR, BiH has made considerable efforts to better the asylum and reception policies and practices. On the other hand, there are aspects of reception and integration services which can be further strengthened in order to meet full rights and needs of both current and future refugees and persons seeking international protection in BiH.
This year’s International Summer School will focus refugee law and refugee rights. We aim to gather students from different countries with social sciences background, NGO workers and activists to discuss the current challenges of access to international refugee protection in the countries of the Western Balkans, and the responsibilities of both citizens and the state towards them.
The Summer School will employ an interactive learning environment using documentary films and open discussions enabling participants to both contribute to and gain an in-depth knowledge of asylum adjudication procedures, reception and integration policies. Instructors lead by professor emeriti Barbara Harrell-Bond will bring a comparative and locally focused perspective to the debate.
The schools is open to students from all social sciences backgrounds with admission fee of 250 Euros, covering school materials, supervision, tutoring, certificate of participation, study visit and food during the 7-days long training and activities.
We hope that this year’s summer school will also raise wider social interest for the topic and further contribute to safeguarding of the right to asylum in BiH and Western Balkans.
CESI invites you to conduct the school registration for the ISS 2014 by sending your letter of interest and CV by 15th of June, 2014 by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Detailed information about the school programme, admission fee and logistics will be soon announced on CESI website www.rrpp-efm.net/cesi where you can also take a look at the last year’s school event.
With sincere regards,
